What material is ASTM A234 WPB for forged flanges and nonstandard forgings?

ASTM A234 WPB is a wrought carbon-steel grade for pressure-piping fittings used in moderate and high-temperature service. It is commonly specified with ASME B16.9 elbows, tees, reducers and caps, and often matched with ASTM A106 Gr.B pipe and ASTM A105 forged flanges.

When should LF2 or WPL6 be used instead of A105 / A234 WPB?

For low-temperature service, forged flanges are commonly specified as ASTM A350 LF2 and butt-weld fittings as ASTM A420 WPL6. The project should confirm design temperature, impact-test requirement, MTC traceability and whether NACE / sour-service requirements also apply.

What does RT / UT / MT / PT inspection mean on a piping RFQ?

RT means radiographic testing, UT means ultrasonic testing, MT means magnetic particle testing and PT means liquid penetrant testing. The required percentage, acceptance criteria and hold points should be stated in the drawing, ITP or purchase specification.
